Programs/Services

Broken Hearts of Florida's ongoing goal is to provide support, friendship, understanding and hope. Every day, Broken Hearts of Florida works to support, educate and connect families affected by congenital heart defects and other pediatric heart diseases.

Among our biggest and most important programs are:

  • Financial Assistance Program — a financial relief program for heart families who need assistance during a planned or unexpected hospital stay; funding of up to $200 per year, per family, helps cover costs associated with long hospital stays (hotel/lodging, gas, food, etc.). You can download a Financial Assistance Form here.
  • Home Away From Home Program — a financial relief program for heart families in the Big Bend area of Florida who need extra assistance during a planned or unexpected hospital stay. This program provides as much funding as possible to help families cover the costs of lodging, gas and food.  You can download a HAFH Assistance Form here.
  • Food from the Heart Pantry — a source of free, quick, nutritious snacks and light meals, available to families staying in the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at UF Health Shands Children's Hospital
  • Care Packages — goody bags filled with toys and toiletries for children and families who are in the hospital for surgery or a procedure
